Sariego

A welcoming territory in which centuries of history have left their mark. Thousands of pilgrims have travelled along the mythical Camino de Santiago, enjoying the hospitality of the “sareganos” on their way to Compostela, and marvelling as they pass through these lands at the beautiful landscapes of a valley dotted with fertile oak groves, picturesque villages and small rural churches and chapels, some of them of Romanesque origin.

Sariego – the capital of which is Vega – is very keen on traditions, one of the most important of which is its “San Pedrín” festival, declared to be of tourist interest, where you can enjoy the well-known mass in Asturian in the shelter of the cave. It is no coincidence that other traditions are very present, such as the ‘esfoyazas’ or the ‘mayado’ of homemade cider, or that there is a route of toponymy through different towns and villages in the municipality, where explanatory panels allude to the origin of the places and the stories they contain.

Few people know that the river Nora – in Valvidares -, one of the most important tributaries of the Nalón, rises in its territory, or few know that salty waters spring from the bowels of its lands and can be drunk at the “Fuente del Pozu Salau”… This is Sariego, one of the jewels of the Cider Shire.
