Llanes

With Llanes everything, without Llanes nothing, outside Llanes everything is over…’. Perhaps this popular verse sums up the essence of a territory and the spirit of its inhabitants. The council of Llanes, which happens to be one of the most traditional tourist destinations in Asturias, treasures in its capital town one of the best preserved historic centres in the whole Principality, which brings together a large number of palaces and emblazoned houses, as well as the Basilica and an endless number of shops, restaurants and cider bars that turn the historic place into a place where people come and go all year round.

The casino, the medieval tower, the San Pedro promenade, the Sablón beach, the palace of the Duke of Estrada, the lighthouse, the port, the Cubos de la Memoria, etc. make up a whole that makes this seafaring town one of the most beautiful in the north of the Iberian Peninsula. And if the capital is beautiful, the municipality does not detract in any way and has everything: the Llanes de cine itinerary, the route of the buffoons, the route of the colours through the Oscuru valley, the Camín Encantáu in Ardisana, the route of the river Purón, the La Cuesta path – in the surroundings of the golf course -, the coastal path between Bustio and Guadamía, the Idolo de Peña Tú? and more than thirty beaches with spectacular scenery – small coves or large sandy areas – where you can practise all kinds of water sports, and which are undoubtedly one of the natural jewels of the municipality and one of the most popular attractions for travellers and artists (many film, television and advertising directors, etc. who have chosen them for their works). Not forgetting the great traditional and folkloric culture of the municipality, very much alive in its villages, which make the bagpipes, the llanisca costume, the traditional cuisine, the legends, the literature, the cinema or the fascinating stories of indianos, a unique and unrepeatable universe.
